The Professional Standards Unit (PSU) supports the mission and core beliefs of the Office of the Sheriff.  Although its primary function is to ensure all members of the agency comply with departmental standards and inter-agency protocols, it also has other additional duties and responsibilities and includes the following subsets:

  • Accreditation Manager: ensures compliance with and adherence to standards established by the V.L.E.P.S.C.
  • Training Officer: makes sure that all sworn law enforcement officers are competent and capable of working assignments in a safe and professional manner.
  • Records: collects, processes and maintains criminal and civil records for the Office of the Sheriff, the courts, the public, and other governmental agencies.
  • Property & Evidence: receives, stores, tracks, and disposes property and evidence that is collected by law enforcement officers within the agency.
  • Domestic Violence  Victim Advocate:  provide victims of violent crimes the information and support needed to ensure positive experiences within the criminal justice system.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS TREE 2017 IS UNDERWAY

Sheriff Bill Overton announces Operation Christmas Tree 2017 is up and running. Through the process of pre-sales, FCSO was able to help 12 Franklin County families greatly during Christmas of 2016. These beautiful Fraser Fir trees will be 6' to 8' in height and trimmed to your specifications on pick up day. For a donation of ONLY $30 per tree, you can have one of these fantastic trees.  Contact Deputy H. L. Nolen if you would like a tree at 540-814-1724. Trees will be cut on 11/18 to guarantee freshness.

 

 

FCSO WARNS OF SECURITY SYSTEM SCAM

Another SCAM is being attempted around our county. This one is stating they are from the Franklin County Sheriff's Office and even uses one of our administration telephone numbers. The scammer claims we are giving away a free security system. The caller then attempts to collect personal information from our residents. THIS IS A SCAM. The Office of the Sheriff advises you to hang up immediately. If you are contacted by anyone and feel it is a scam, please call us at 540-483-3000.

CREDIT CARD SCAMMERS NEAR OUR AREA

Sheriff Bill Overton advises credit card scammers have been discovered near our area. "We have received notification from the Roanoke County Police Department that these credit card scamming devices have been found in the Clearbrook area", Sheriff Overton advised. The Sheriff explained how residents of Franklin County to be vigilant when using automated credit card machinery. "If the reader looks tampered with, different color, odd wording and/or seems loose or not aligned, then do not use and notify the company's management or call The Office of the Sheriff at 540-483-3000", said Sheriff Overton.
