Tom Firebaugh - B Shift Operations Lieutenant
I am a Franklin County native and have lived here for most of my life. After graduating from FCHS and Virginia Tech, I worked in the business world for 20ish years before I said to myself “Geez, this isn’t fun anymore” and began to take some baby steps into the world of Fire/EMS. It all started with a very brief chance encounter with a Chesterfield County Firefighter that lit a spark in me to take some training. I volunteered with Rocky Mount Fire Department for 7 years before obtaining my EMT certification. I began working for Public Safety part-time in March of 2007 and then became a full-time employee in January of 2008. Today I am honored and proud to serve as the B Shift Operations Lieutenant with a great group of people. I am also a member of the Special Operations and Emergency Response Teams. Being able to serve in my home community gives me a sense of pride that I have never had in any other job.
I married my high school sweetheart Michelle, and we will celebrate 30 years of marriage in May. We have two adult sons, Adam and Hayden, who turned out to be great guys despite their upbringing. Our only companion around the house now is our tremendously fat cat Luther. My wife and I love to travel the world, and on my days off I can be found at the golf course, painting abstract art, entering Brad Pitt lookalike contests or procrastinating about yard projects. My next endeavor is to run for Mayor of Burnt Chimney.
